DAN SUTHERLAND / FOUNDER, PERAS AI

A founder's view of
what makes
technology useful.

Dan Sutherland founded Peras AI to help leaders make better decisions about AI and build their organisations' ability to act on them.

Technology has to hold up
in the business.

Dan's experience connects the technology to the decisions around it: where it creates value, how it will be adopted and what the organisation needs to make it work.

Balance the whole outcome.

That experience has led Dan to develop a distinctive approach to technology and AI, bringing the commercial, strategic, human and technical dimensions together from the start. Innovation is a vital part of the solution, but it is not an end in itself. The aim is to find practical solutions that create meaningful value across all four—rather than a technically impressive outcome that falls short for the business or the people who need to use it.

Start with evidence.

Dan began in mathematics and computational neuroscience, including published research at the Queensland Brain Institute. That grounding shaped an analytical approach: understand the system, test the assumptions and follow the evidence.

Make it work for people and the business.

At Biarri, he applied mathematics and software to commercial problems before founding and leading Biarri EMI, now Cru Software. Building a software business brought responsibility for customers, people and the economics of the business. An appealing technical idea has to become something people can use and a business can sustain.

Work through adoption.

His subsequent work at Deloitte spanned the AI Solution Studio, the founding CTO role in Deloitte Software Group, and principal consulting in AI and data. It connected hands-on technology development with enterprise adoption, executive decisions and organisational change.

Together, those experiences shape how Peras AI works: examine what the technology can do, test where it creates value, and work through what your people need to use it well.

Dan's experience spans major organisations including Deloitte, Rio Tinto, BP, Shell, Origin Energy, Asahi and Adelaide University, as well as Australian federal and state governments. This breadth brings a practical understanding of how AI can create value across different industries, operating environments and organisational challenges.

The organisations named here describe Dan's former roles and experience.

IN DEVELOPMENTGoverned knowledge and document creation

Alongside its consulting work, Peras AI is developing a platform for turning organisational knowledge into governed, reusable material and professional documents. The planned approach keeps permissions, provenance and human review central to how knowledge is reused.

Peras AI intends to use the platform in its own consulting business first, shaping it around real work. The platform is in development.
